I’m loathe to dedicate any more blog to Bravery trash talk, but this is getting super ridiculous.

Arjan recently asked the Bravery’s Sam Endicott about his band’s reputation as copycats.

SAM ENDICOTT: No artist likes to be compared to others. You always think you’re special and unique and all that bullshit. But at least they are comparing us to good bands instead of shitty ones. The Duran Duran comparison is my least favorite, because I don’t like that band at all.

Duran Duran’s response? Invite them on tour!

SIMON LE BON: We are absolutely delighted to have The Bravery on board for the St Andrews show along with Daniel Bedingfield. Each act will make a unique musical contribution to the date and we are sure our fans will love the bill.

Whoops. It’s probably safe to say Sam and Simon won’t be sharing eyeliner backstage afterall. Haven’t we learned anything from the Pavement/Pumpkins debacle of ’94?

  1. Hoo boy….someone’s juice machine is gonna get confiscated and sprayed with bug repellent on this tour.

  2. The Bravery can’t sniff Duran Duran’s collective ass.

The Bravery and Oasis should go on a tour called The Magical Mystery Ego Tour, and charge $1 million per ticket because they are so great.

yuck. the bravery AND daniel bedingfield? seriously, duran are not especially synonymous with ‘taste’ and ‘posessing an ability to discern between tacky and fabulous’ but…

    ew.

  4. damn….now i know not to get their cd then.

  5. mike z’s too hot for me to hate the bravery … although i should.

  6. shishkebob  |   Posted on Apr 19th, 2005

I read that interview…it sounds like they don’t hate the Killers THAT much. From the interviews with Arjan, both bands seem to think it was all blown out of proportion, forgetting how they shitpotted each other.

Ahhh the Pumpkins Pavement feud…. thanks for bringing me back!

  8. matthew  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

how brave are the bravery? all their beefs are with other poofs.

  9. kevin  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

yes I agree scott. don’t give any more space to stories like this. instead why don’t you talk about some of those great CDs taht are rocking your ipod. like andrew bird. they sure could use more of your blog love over the bravery.

  10. > instead why don’t you talk about some of
    > those great CDs taht are rocking your ipod.

Fair enough. I hear Andrew Bird called Sufjan Stevens a shithead in the new Magnet… ?

  11. I agree with Matthew in re tiffs w/ poofs. Wake me for the Bravery/David Allan Coe beef.

  12. I think it’s probably safe to say that Mr. LeBon has little or no idea who the Bravery are or what they sound like, as the phrase “a unique musical contribution” is both extremely PR-ish and extremely untrue.

  13. gigi gulacki  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

pfff, until the Bravery write anything even slightly resembling the genius of Rio, this case is closed, people.

  14. Now I’m in the mood to listen to Duran Duran.

  15. pageblank  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

Duran Duran always brings back memories of my sister bopping along to “The Reflex” in her pink leg warmers.

  16. gigi gulacki  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

i listened to Rio 7 times yesterday.. i think there should be an 80s revival, anyone with me?

  17. FRED  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

Gigi have you been awake the last few years? The 90′s revival starts next week. Yeesh!

  18. Michael Black  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

I would like to know more about Andrew Bird. I keep hearing his name but haven’t heard any songs and don’t know anything about him except that all the cool kids think he’s great.

  19. gigi gulacki  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

Fred, the 90s sucked big time..except maybe for nirvana

  20. kevin  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

whoa! neu folk fights! andrew bird vs. sufjan! haha
    more please!

  21. fred  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

Gigi not to be insulting, but you obviously don’t have much musical knowledge if you think that Nirvana is the only good music from the 90′s.

  22. Can anybody inform me about the pavement/pumpkins debacle of ’94? I have a little more respect for pavement than the pumpkins, but I still have never heard of this..

    i’m a youngin’..

  23. gigi gulacki  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

fred darling, i’ve been reading the NME since 1979..
    i was merely being sarcastic

  24. Am I the only idiot who thinks the Bravery can sound like U2?

  25. fred  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

Doh, had my sarcasm sensor switched to off. My bad.

  26. Michael Black  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

Brian, listen to ‘Range Life’on crooked rain and you’ll get a taste, apparently they toured on lollapalooza together and the feud started then.

  27. gigi gulacki  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

no worries, its refreshing to hear from someone who “knows their shit”

  28. Whooops. Had one of my writers call the Bravery guitarist (and yes, I’m too lazy to learn the name) for our next issue. He said that the guy became the most animated when he asked him about the Killer feud. Said he couldn’t have gone on about that the rest of the day.

Color me bored. I’ve seen this crap before, back when it was Blur and Oasis. But hey, it makes NME fly off the rack, right?

  29. Whoops, meant the KILLERS feud. That’s what I get for typing on my wireless enabled PowerBook after too much Belgian Ale.

  30. Vinny Bagadonuts  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

Honestly? Who gives a flyin’ fuck about either of these fayyyygola bands?

  31. fred  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

Somebody told me that Bravery had a song that sounded like the single that Killers released in February of last year, it’s not confidential.. er sommat…

  32. Okay, I’m a Duranie and have been for a LONG time. More power to them for inviting an obvious flash in the pan band to open up for them – Hello, can you say “sold out venues”?? They should be licking Nick Rhoades’ pointy little shoes and polishing John Taylor’s lovely fingers (yummy) for even having a chance to sell out anything!! Feud Schmeud! When they’re making BANK, they’ll be humming “The Chauffer” and thanking their lucky stars!

  33. Feast your Eyes  |   Posted on May 21st, 2005

    Gigi-
    Speaking of Nirvana…
I downloaded the bravery’s album and does anyone notice that the verse in swollen summer is the exact same melody as Nirvana’s Stay Away? That just bothered me enough to dismiss the band completely. Especially after the daft punk beat song before it. Annoying!!

  34. mili  |   Posted on Aug 26th, 2005

sorry but duran duran are extremely crappy possibly the crapiest band of the eighties

  35. norman  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

duran duran is a very technical band if heard n seen live but highly underrated cuz they followed their own style and theres no band like duran duran…by the way who the fuk is bravery ..compare duran to u2 or depeche modes or cure..

  36. Nigel Bates  |   Posted on Nov 15th, 2005

The only bravery I learned from this discussion is the honest mistake to not have the ability to understand the greatness of DURAN DURAN.

  37. noman  |   Posted on Aug 31st, 2007

can bravery create hits like ordinary world? come undoene?rio?all she wants is?chauffer?serious?view to a kill…this band bravery is just trying to talk shit so they can cretae some hype thats it!!!
yea i always compared duran with cure u2 n depeche mode …who is bravery??…bravery has to be born thrice to meet duran duran standard
