Arctic Monkeys - AM

Arctic Monkeys album number five is called AM, and it drops in about a month and a half. We’ve posted the early tracks “Do I Wanna Know?” and “2013,” and now another has made its way to the internet. “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” is all sparse, clean lines and plaintively conversational lyrics, and it finds unforeseen common ground with, say, the xx and Jessie Ware and all the other towering figures in the UK’s recent wave of dark and slinky R&B-derived pop. Listen below.

AM is out 9/10 on Domino.

  1. I think this is going to be the record where they break through in a major way in America.

    • Probably still won’t have much commercial success, but based on the three songs we’ve heard so far it’s hard to imagine they won’t start getting some of the respect they deserve over here. “Do I Wanna Know?” and “R U Mine?” are both outstanding, and this one is pretty great too. Why are all of these song titles questions though? Instead of AM, they should have just titled the album “?”.

  2. Is it just me, or are US viewers unable to view this video?

  3. Almost all of the Youtube clips I’ve found for it are down.

  4. Alex Turner has come a long way as a songwriter. This could have easily been a tossed-off, blah effort, but no, it has thoughtful lyrics, a killer melody and is just awesome all the way around. (I was able to pick it up on Youtube, listen while you can!)

  5. anyone have a working link?
