Roberto Lang, aka Helado Negro, released a full-length called Invisible Life last spring but is already back with new material. “Enters” and “Stop Living Dead” are both from his forthcoming Island Universe Story Two, the second in a series of EPs. “Not designed to ’tease’ or ’build up to’ or kill time between the Helado Negro albums,” according to press materials, “these releases shadow the LPs, moving darkly alongside them—and, like a shadow, may be more easily described by what they aren’t than what they are.” Both cuts vary wildly. “Enters” is a collage of electronic mood pieces, whereas “Stop Living Dead” is a muted, classical piece that crackles in places and almost sounds as if you’re listening to it from the projection room in a movie theater. Check out the charged tracks below.

Island Universe Story Two is out 8/27 digitally and on cassette via Asthmatic Kitty.

  1. Good stuff. I think Invisible Life is his best album, but this seems to be going in a weirder direction, which I can get with.

BTW, it’s already streaming on his bandcamp.
