    • i guess my point loses credibility when i didn’t spell uninformed right…RIGHT?

    • Does it go without saying in 2013 that sampling is what hip hop was built on? The Clash sample on ‘Paper Planes’ is just as iconic as the original at this point. I guess you either get it or you don’t.

      • Not even close. The Clash are one of the greatest and most important groups of all time. Nothing she will ever accomplish in her few remaining years in the spotlight could hold comparison. What the fuck does being an icon have to do with merit in musical output? A bunch of goddamn teenagers being familiar with your work amounts to being little more than a footnote in a decade lousy with them.

And your implication that not liking the new fucking M.I.A. song is analogous to “not getting” hip hop is just too cute for words. I suppose you’re a fan of “Come With Me” by Puffy Daddy as well??

        • Hey the Godzilla soundtrack is a goddamn classic!

        • Sorry to disappoint but I love the Clash and own every record. I understand if you don’t feel the same way but I believe M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes” is one of the best songs of the past 20 years. I’m also in my 30s but recognize that new music can have merit. I was only arguing the original point that implied that “taking another great older song and turning it into an m.i.a. hit” was a bad thing, because to me that comment implied that sampling older music was bad in general. I think it’s then justified to conclude that you don’t get sampling as a whole.

I think a lot of people would agree with me on these points, or at least disagree without cursing at me.

  3. Wow, I couldn’t even get all the way through that.

  4. I don’t see what the problem is sampling Blur (or any song for that matter), that’s not the point here. The point is this song is terrible.

  5. I have to agree with the general consensus. Love Bad Girls, love Bring The Noize, absolutely hate this.

  6. It’s a minor song, not really worthy of advance leaking, but it’s not as bad as people are making it out to be. Her approach to singing here is not too far off from what Siouxsie Sioux did in “Red Over White,” at least in the original 1980 version. Considered in the context of an album that’s gonna to have plenty of bangers, this will likely be a nice breather track.

  7. So this is an M.I.A. ballad, I guess? It’s okay in that regard, but the ragers are the better songs. I think she knows that, too. I’ve no problem with getting a taste of the whole album range ahead of time.
