Matt Berninger – “I’ll See You In My Dreams” (Isham Jones Cover)

Matt Berninger must have so many HBO coffee mugs in his house. First, Berninger’s band the National recorded “The Rains Of Castamere” for HBO. And now Berninger has recorded another song for another HBO show, Boardwalk Empire. This time around, he’s solo, and backed by Vince Giordano And The Nighthawks, going fully era-specific. Berninger’s version of “I’ll See You In My Dreams,” a wisftful 1925 hit for Isham Jones and the Ray Miller Orchestra, should sound right at home on the show, but it still has that hungover, contemplative air that Berninger brings to his main band. It comes from the compilation Boardwalk Empire Volume 2, which also has people like Neko Case and St. Vincent covering Prohibition-era songs. We posted a TV rip last fall, but now you can hear the proper, mastered version below.
