Future Of The Left - How To Stop Your Brain In An Accident

Everyone knows Mclusky was the best band of the last 20 years but the mass cultural despair that followed the Welsh trio’s 2005 dissolution may have been premature: Since then, Future Of The Left — the post-Mclusky outfit led by that band’s singer/guitarist Andy Falkous and drummer Jack Egglestone — have turned out three albums just about as essential as the three albums released by Mclusky during their run. This fall, FOTL will drop their fourth LP, How To Stop Your Brain In An Accident, the first single from which we’ve got today. “Bread, Cheese, Bow And Arrow” is as taut and hard as the cables on a suspension bridge, all rigid rhythmic stutter and air-raid-siren urgency. Falkous delivers some especially wicked lyrics — “The loneliness took my ancestors/ that and the lions” — via a combination of unhinged howl, clenched-teeth hiss, and sometimes even melodic singing. It all hits like a rubber mallet to the left temple. Listen.

How To Stop Your Brain In An Accident is out 10/21 via the band’s own Prescriptions Music.
