TV On The Radio

Late-night TV hosts see hundreds of musical guests come through their studios, so it’s always fun to see when one of them really gets stoked about a band he just saw. (I am not counting Jimmy Fallon in this. Jimmy Fallon is always stoked.) For a prime example of a stoked TV host, watch David Letterman reacting to TV On The Radio on last night’s Late Show. But first, watch TVOTR blaze through a passionate, squalid, punk-as-fuck rendition of their soaring new single “Mercy,” because it’s the sort of performance worth getting stoked about. You can watch the performance and Dave’s reaction below.

How ’bout this guy?

  1. “Jimmy Fallon is always stoked.” – that made me giggle a little. Gotta love the guy.

P.S. So… what’s the deal? We going to hear a new TVOTR album or what?

  2. “How about this guy?!”

    “How about THIS guy?!”

If you can get that kind of reaction out of Mr. Letterman, you know you’re at the height of the game.

And you wouldn’t want to let Mr. Letterman down, would you, TVOTR? Just announce your next LP and be done with it already. My fragile psyche can’t take much more of this.

  3. Letterman had a similar reaction when they played “Wolf Like Me” on the show back in 2006 (how could you not?)

I feel like TV On The Radio is one of his favorite bands. They were stellar as always.

    • I was gonna say exactly that, and you got here first. Watching Letterman nerd-out over a great rock performance is kind of joyful. He had a great reaction when The Hives played his show for the first time too.

  4. TV on the Radio is one of my all-time favourite bands.

I also really like The Constantines, Yeasayer, Wilco, Mountain Goats, Frightened Rabbit, Modest Mouse, The Antlers, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Shins, LCD Soundsystem, Destroyer, and The National.
