Lou Reed

It’s nicely framed that Lou Reed began the ’70s out there alone working as a typist after leaving the Velvet Underground, and by the end of that decade he was a firmly immortalized rock star. Genesis Publications have now released a massive photo collection of photos by Mick Rock, who captured Lou Reed’s misadventures throughout that decade. It’s aptly titled Transformer, and we have one Collectors Edition that you can win. It collects photos, many unreleased and candid, of Reed throughout those years, many of which include him with Mick Jagger, David Bowie, and Andy Warhol. The book is limited to 2000 copies, all signed by Reed and Rock, paired with a 7″ picture disc vinyl, and would normally run you about $500.

If you head to Genesis’ site you can watch a short video that shows off the book and previews some of the photos. You can also order the book here and enter STEREOGUM as a voucher code to waive the $50 shipping costs.

To enter the sweeps, you need be a fan of Stereogum on Facebook and comment below with your favorite Lou Reed song via Facebook Connect login (do not use your ‘Gum user account on this post — we’ll have to be able to check if you are a fan of Stereogum on FB when the sweepstakes ends). Sorry, U.S. residents only. Winner will be chosen randomly. Sweepstakes ends on 10/14 at 6 PM EST. Good luck!
