Wooden Shjips - Back To Land

Bay Area space-rock warlocks Wooden Shjips will soon follow up their great 2011 album West with a new album called Back To Land. According to a press release, the new album will move the band toward “more minimalist territories.” If the album-opening title track is anything to go on, that means the new album will have a bit of Lungfish’s mesmerizing circular repetition, though they’ll replace that band’s fearsome apocalyptic streak with an easygoing back-porch almost-blues vibe. The song is great, and you can download it below.

Back To Land is out 11/11 on Thrill Jockey.

  1. I really like Wooden Shjips, but if their “mesmerizing circular repetition” is reminiscent of anyone, it is the mighty and highly-influential LOOP, whose reunion this site has yet to pay any mind. By the way, the riff in this song actually is a very slight variation on LOOP’s Soundhead.
