Arcade Fire @ Neil Young's Annual Bridge School Benefit

Arcade Fire played the 2013 Bridge School Benefit last night, and like he did at the event two years ago the charity’s founder Neil Young joined the band onstage. Arcade Fire played three songs from their new album Reflektor (out Tuesday) — “Reflektor,” “Awful Sound (Oh Eurydice),” and “Normal Person” — before introducing a brand new song inspired by Young. Here’s Win:

“I had a dream … We’re playing the song at soundcheck and I remembered, I woke up and remembered everything. I was half asleep and I started playing it and wrote down the lyrics and listened back to my tape recorder and it was basically a Neil Young. So this song is called ’I Dreamed A Neil Young Song’ and Neil’s gonna come sing it with us. So this song is by Neil Young in my head.”

Watch it as part of the full night’s archived webcast below by scrolling to 06:07:00.

Other highlights to check out include Young joining My Morning Jacket for “Harvest Moon” at 5:10:00 and CSNY’s reunion at 7:45:10.

Tonight’s webcast will include performances again from CSNY, QOTSA, MMJ, Elvis Costello, Heart, Jenny Lewis, and, in his first concert in five years, Tom Waits.

  1. Jesus, that is the longest Youtube video I’ve ever seen.

I actually really like this song. It would of been cool if they were to have it on the record and had Neil singing backing vocals on part of it, a la Bowie on Reflektor. Though it probably wouldn’t of fit with the rest of the album

  2. OMFG! OMFingG. I love this song so much. Here are the totally awesome lyrics: Win Butler is like the new Keith Richards combined wiht Neil Young combined with John Lennon. He encompasses and surpasses.

Neil Young writes songs for Win in his sleep–IN HIS Fing HEAD!

Set to the tune of Horse With No Name by America.

I dreamed I was playing in a band with my friends
Since I was young, I always dreamed about playing in a band with my friends

    Ooooo Ooooooo Oooooooo Ooooooo

I tried to move back home for a while but my hometown got too small
So I headed north in the winter time to the city of Montreal

OOooooo Oooooo Oooo Ooooo Ooooooooo Ooooo Oo Oooooooo

    Where does it end
    Where did it begin
    What did we lose
    And what will we find
    And if you run
    I’m right behind
    Cause everybody dies
    So I intend to live!

I had a dream that I woke up singing “I was playing in a band with my friends”
Since I was young I always dreamed about playing in a band with my friends

    Late at night
    when the house is quiet
    Sometimes I think
    about the end
What will I remember from the years
I was playing in a band with my friends

Whoooo Ooooo Oooooo Whoooooo Oooooo Ooooooooo etc.

I had a dream that I woke up singing “I was playing in a band with my friends”
Since I was young I always dreamed about playing in a band with my friends.

    Oooooo Oooo Ooo Oooooooooooooo

I had a dream once, it died
I had a face once, it lied
I had friends once, they spied
I have a home now, where I abide
    the spies
    the lies
    the dies
    Ooooo Ooooo Oo Oo Oooooooooo

  3. Ha ha brilliant. Those aren’t even the lyrics and yes A Horse With No Name is Neil Young song probably written by Neil Young in a dream by the America songwriter, but this song doesn’t really go to the tune of that song. Funny posting though.
