Arctic Monkeys

Today we posted Lou Reed covers from Pearl Jam, Twin Shadow, and My Morning Jacket with Neil Young, Elvis Costello, and Jenny Lewis. You can now add Arctic Monkeys to that list. The band kicked off tonight’s encore at Liverpool’s Echo Arena with a cover of “Walk On The Wild Side,” Reed’s lone Billboard Hot 100 single. Watch a fan-shot video below.

In the wake of Reed’s death, “Wild Side” is climbing the charts again — it’s #34 on iTunes’ singles chart at the time of this post.

Check out our list of 20 great Lou Reed moments here.

  1. I’d like to watch but you posted the wrong video.

  2. Wrong video, dudes.

  3. Sgum must be adopting those sweet Fox News standards, aka doublecheck NOTHING!! [evil laughter]

  4. This is a really awesome cover. The swag of the song is similar to that of Alex Turner. Hope they do a studio version on some Lou Reed tribute album.

  5. I’ll never forget always thinking this would be a great song for The Strokes to cover, then getting to see The Strokes cover it at Ithaca in 2006.

  6. listened to a cpl of these covers, and i know im late to yesterdays party, but to anyone who comes upon this hipster blog post, everything is a massive disservice except for this original
