All Dogs – “Basement”

Take it from somebody who spent seven years covering Columbus music: The recent rash of bands getting national media attention from my city (see: Way Yes, Connections, Van Dale, etc.) does not reflect a fresh influx of talent so much as people outside the I-270 outerbelt finally paying attention to all the glorious noise around here. Same went for the shitgaze sensation of 2008; there was a bumper crop of great lo-fi punk and pop flowing from the city’s dives for years before all the buzz for Times New Viking’s fuzz. Out here in the Midwest, these things take time.

Recent Band To Watch/40 Best New Bands honoree All Dogs, however, is both glorious and new. Although its membership has been active in hard-touring, much-loved DIY outfits like Saintseneca and Delay for years, the pop-punk trio has only been around for about a year and hadn’t released anything until their debut cassette landed on Bandcamp in July. This month marks another release, a 7-inch featuring four more emotive scrappers topped off by Maryn Jones’ sweet sincerity. Hear the best of them, the appropriately titled “Basement,” below.

The All Dogs 7-inch is out now via Salinas Records; stream and purchase it here.
