You Be My Heart Album Cover

The forthcoming You Be My Heart compilation benefits 826 National, a nonprofit that offers “a variety of inventive programs that provide under-resourced students, ages 6-18, with opportunities to explore their creativity and improve their writing skills.” The album’s 16 tracks were all penned by San Francisco-based 826 volunteer Devon Reed, who then turned one over to each of the participating performers — including Mark Kozelek, Field Report, Bowerbirds, Marissa Nadler, Maps & Atlases, Fruit Bats, and 10 more — to remake in their own image. Today we premiere Kozelek’s contribution, a typically dour, heartfelt, and incisive acoustic rambler called “I Know.” Have a listen.

You Be My Heart is out 12/9; check the comp’s official site for more details.
