This week we broke down Stephen Malkmus’ “Lariat,” the first single from Wig Out At Jagbags, which the Jicks previewed in Portland on Friday. We presented an annotated media guide to Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes and reported from Boston Hassle and Fun Fun Fun Fest. We watched David Lowery try to shut down Rap Genius and Lily Allen try to make a feminist statement and get called racist for it. We celebrated 20 years of Midnight Marauders and 10 years of The Black Album. We ranked of Montreal’s discography. And we learned Justin Timberlake is still just a rat in a cage. Your best and worst comments about these things — AND THE NEW DEATH GRIPS — are below.

i’m glad to see my comment made the staff pick but it still doesn’t answer my question.

the reason i want to shit on his face is because i feel like when i see him act he is always just one second away from looking at the camera and winking.

Ironically, it seems that Cracker is quite flexible with copyright law when it comes to images: https://www.facebook.com/CrackerSoul/photos_stream . I’m sure Bill Watterson approved that Calvin re-appropriation.

Posting a story about All Dogs on the same day a lot of people are talking about a more serious story (re: Yellow Dogs) is not a great idea. All Dogs aren’t quite very well know yet, and I’ve already read some confusion with people thinking All Dogs were Yellow Dogs and vice versa — just bad timing for this.

So, just because Pitchfork posted a track today as well (none of these are singles, mind you, they’re just random tracks selected off the EP you’ve deemed as the best just as I did two weekends ago with “Buddy”,) doesn’t mean you have to follow suit. Use better judgement, think for yourselves and more importantly, think with your heads instead of your content goals.

I still fail to understand how anyone out of middle school/high school finds this is any way good or interesting. There’s been a lot of harsh crap with no hint of melody to come before this that’s a lot more intense and impressive.

  1. This gif nicely illustrates how I feel about getting #5.

  2. I thought for sure Claire would get #1 comment this week, after her oh so close #2 slot last week. Even our favorite 2013 inside joke couldn’t send her to the top!

I meant to ask this in the JT thread, but is there something else to kilgore’s comment I’m missing? I mean, it seems super kind and thoughtful, just want to make sure I’m not missing some joke under the surface.

  3. For every reaction, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Last week I was on top, now I’m back on the bottom. STORY OF MY LIFE.

Anyway, so Sub Pop signed someone huge, and Stereogum seems to think its Bruce Hornsby even though everyone else thinks its something Thom Yorke-y?

    • Kind of sounds like it could be Flaming Lips to me.

    • If it turns out to be Radiohead as some optimists (including myself) hope it to be, and they drop a surprise record on us before the end of December, 2013 might be the new 1991. I’m gonna feel real sorry for 2014, either way.

      • It also sounds like Liars as well (and Liars did just post a video teaser for a new album.) But the level of praise for the band and calling it a “career-justifying event” would lead you to believe the artist or band could sell out arenas or something. Maybe its Beck (although this doesn’t sound like a companion piece to Sea Change) or Neil Young.

    • I dunno that last little vocal bit at the end sounded awfully Gibbard-y. Postal Service album no.2?

    • Wolf Parade?

    • Hold up. It was The Notwist? Seriously? Mannn we are really scraping the bottom of the barrel if that counts as “career justifying”. Next Matador will be gushing about how they just signed Tapes N Tapes or British Sea Power or something.

  4. I WAS SO CLOSE

  5. I work too hard to this shit.

  6. I shit hard and it’s work.

  7. The first two were legit mistakes. You then saw an opening and, that’s right, nailed it.

  8. I don’t comment all week and I’m not even #4? wtf

  9. # 1 comment on the internet.
