Lately, Prince Rogers Nelson has abandoned the archaic practice of recording and releasing albums, forsaking it in favor of throwing random songs out on the internet and seeing where they go. He’s been on a pretty good recent run — “Fixurlifeup,” “Breakfast Can Wait” — and now he’s got another new one called “Da Bourgeoisie.” It’s a virtuoso funk vamp about a lover who leaves Prince for a woman, which can’t be the type of thing that happens too often. Listen below.

Prince apparently just threw the song up on his Twitter, which was nice of him.

  1. sounds like Stevie wonder of yore.

  2. “Virtuoso funk vamp” is the perfect description. Definitely the best of his recent one-offs, but add some horns and it would be even better.

  3. Sounds like Fresh-era Sly. This whole 3rd-eye girl thing (thang?) seems to have loosened him up. Now if he would just please release the original version of Extra-Lovable so I can forget that horrible re-recording from a year ago.
