Unilever ad with Pixies cover by Danny Schogger

“Why bring a child into this world?” asks Errol Morris’s ad for Unilever’s new global sustainability initiative — the answer being that together we can create solutions to maintain a healthy environment for every kid on the planet. The four-minute clip is full of expectant parents voicing their hopes and fears, and it’s immensely affecting stuff, especially for someone pondering when to take the plunge into parenthood. The soundtrack for this emotional experience is a swooning instrumental cover of the Pixies classic “Where Is My Mind” performed by pianist Danny Schogger; consider it the antithesis of the final scene in Fight Club. Below, with your feet on the air and your head on the ground, try this trick and spin it.

The Pixies, with an as yet unnamed new bassist, will tour North America starting next month.

  1. I’ve seen this film popping up in my news feeds for the last few day and I’ve finally had the chance to watch it. I couldn’t help but to tear up. I don’t think they could have picked a better instrumental, as it is striking and direct whilst maintaining a dark beauty. Wow.
