Tokyo Police Club

Back in ’08, Canadian rock band Tokyo Police Club was rocketing to popularity. When they filmed a music video in my high school (that’s my friend Alex playing the bully), everyone was buzzing about how there were rock stars on campus. A lot has changed since then though, and the band has been fairly quiet for the last few years, taking their time to record a follow-up to 2010′s Champ. Now you can hear the first single from their next LP, the epic, nearly nine-minute “Argentina (Parts I, II, III).” The band sounds more mature, a little more wistful, but still catchy as hell. In other words, Modern Vampires Of The City is already letting its influence loose on the world. Watch the lyric video below.

The currently untitled album is due out in early 2014.

  1. Am I the only person who thought Champ was really underrated?

    uh

    • yeah, that statement is off-base. It’s safe to say they wrote and/or recorded this before Modern Vampires came out and this tune isn’t that far-off from what TPC always sounded like.

I’m loving this song and look forward to hearing the rest of the album. Champ has its high moments (“Not Sick” is a solid, solid song) but I was yearning for that less-polished, more experimental production from yester year…but whether this new stuff is polished or not, I’m really diggin’ what I’m hearing so far.

    • Yeah that was a pretty unexpected and unnecessary douchey middle school music Nazi-like comment thrown in at the end.

  3. I like how 2013 was the year of the lyric video. A trend I welcome into the coming year.

  4. This is excellent

  5. I’ve yet to not love anything they’ve done. So excited to hear new music from them.

  6. “Tessellate” still gets me every time

  7. i just wanted to say i’ve listened to this 4 times in a row and i may keep going. this is awesome.

  8. I remember seeing these guys in 2007. Bought their EP and instantly loved what I heard. Their follow ups never disappointed either and this is song actually maintains that consistent winning streak.
