Hear Sampha Debut “Courtesy” On BBC Radio 1 Session

The richly evocative soul singer and SBTRKT collaborator Sampha had a big look this year via a pair of Drake duets, the sublime non-album track “The Motion” and the also-sublime Nothing Was The Same deep cut “Too Much.” (They debuted the latter, which was built from Sampha’s pre-existing piano ballad of the same name, on Fallon in September.) As happens when you team up with one of the biggest names in music, a lot of ears are now perked for Sampha’s forthcoming album. Those ears were rewarded with a new song, the jazzy Fender Rhodes R&B ballad “Courtesy,” during Sampha’s performance at Maida Vale Studios on a BBC Radio 1 special dedicated to the Young Turks label. Jamie xx, Koreless, and Pional were also featured. Find the full session here, or just listen to Sampha’s 28-minute segment below. He leads off with “Happens” and “Can’t Get Close,” then “Courtesy” kicks in around the 19:50 mark.

Sampha’s album is expected next year via Young Turks.
