As time-tested album cycles are discarded and abandoned, so too is an artist’s traditional publicity window. In 2013, the best way to stay in the public eye was not to do interviews, but to bicker, troll, and brawl — on Twitter, on TV, or in person. Yes, beef was what’s for dinner in 2013, and while it would be cynical to assume artists were making multiple trips to the buffet in order to maintain visibility, it would be naive to blindly assume otherwise.

To that end, several of 2013′s Biggest Music Beefs were not isolated incidences, but recurring squabbles, or variations on a theme. Heck, Azealia Banks alone was involved in such an array of beefery that we had to eliminate her from this competition so that her own 10 Dumbest Beefs could be examined up close. Same for Death Grips, who topped our list of 2012′s Biggest Music Beefs. And you want to know the absolute craziest thing? Even if we were to lump both those acts’ respective beefs into single entries on this list, I still don’t think either of them would have been able to wrest the crown from the artist who eventually claimed its top spot.

So pull up a chair and dig in. Beef is on the menu, and the feast begins here.

  1. Everybody has to bow down before the Moz. With him, beef is murder.

  2. Wait did you just use the term “mansplaining”, wow stereogum I just lost a little faith in you guys

  3. what happened with Daft Punk? The synopsis isnt displaying.

  4. Is that DIIV or Keira Knightley?

  5. The issue with Spotify is one I recognized right when the service came out. I used it for a bit because it was interesting to see artists put up music in playlists that they like, but in the end I’d rather just buy an album from artists I like rather than see them get ripped off from streaming services like that. Just because it’s free doesn’t mean it’s good.

  6. Your article on Miley VS Sinead was pretty weird to Me. In my opinion, Sinead was way out of line slut-shaming Miley and being so patronizing. What She did was pretty offensive and She deserved to be put back in her place. I believe her behaviour here was anti-feminist, not Miley’s.

Plus, have you seen those vegetables pics? She’s cray.

    • And then you dissed Morrissey. I strongly disagree with those articles.

    • I’m not sure how what Sinead said to Miley was at all anti-feminist. She was offering advice in private to someone who is currently involved in a lot of controversy. All she was trying to do was offer Miley advice on how to handle a situation she had experienced (kind of) in the past. And Miley’s reaction was way out of line, and generally uncalled for.

  7. Moz gets laughed at because he cares strongly about what he believes in, doesn’t have the apathetic attitude that’s cool these days. He comes across as over the top in his statements but really what could you possibly expect?

    • Yay for standing up to racist, full of themselves jerks!

Just because Moz is talented doesn’t mean people need to make excuses for him or think his stands up for important beliefs. The guy is an asshole. A talented asshole is still an asshole.

  8. Daft Punk is the best!
