Twin Shadow - "Cupid"

In recent months, Twin Shadow’s George Lewis, Jr. has been on an absolute tear, recording evocative covers of songs by 10cc, Bruce Springsteen, Tori Amos, Lou Reed, and U2, and posting all of them online as part of his UNDER THE CVRS video series. For his latest trick, he’s taken on 112′s excellently glossy 1997 R&B hit “Cupid,” turning it into brooding and synthy rock without losing that heart-tugging central melody and showing off his voice plenty in the process. I’ll confess that I would’ve preferred “Peaches & Cream,” but it’s still great. Watch/listen below.

There’s talk of a new Twin Shadow album this year, and now I’m half-hoping that it’s all covers.

  1. This isn’t THAT bad, but I hate that it happened.

At least it’s not “Only You” or “U Already Know” or “Dance With Me” or “Anywhere” or—NEVER MIND, PROTECT 112 FROM ALL COVERS.

    (Hi guys!)

  2. pretty good version. i listened to the original on repeat when I was like 13 and a wannabe playa. is 90′s r8b starting to get rediscovered. if so, jodeci needs to go to the front of the line.
