Lily Allen - "Air Balloon"

Last month, the back-from-maternity-leave Lily Allen scored a UK #1 with her cover of Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know” and started a shitload of arguments with her attempted feminist anthem “Hard Out Here.” Today, she drops another new single, and it’s the closest that the resurgent Allen has come to the cheeky, tossed-off sparkle-pop of her second album, if not the organic glimmer of her still-great debut. “Air Balloon,” which Allen co-wrote with the Swedish pop producer Shellback, is a fundamentally light and goofy whistle-pop track. Give it a listen below.

Lily’s third album is set to arrive later this year.

  1. Enjoyable track. Screaming out for a playful bassline though.

  2. The chorus has Bollywood feel! And the pouty “nah-nah-nah”s are somehow adorable rather than obnoxious. I don’t know how, but she rides that line so well.

  3. “her attempted feminist anthem ‘Hard Out Here.’”

Lol passive aggressive? I really can’t stand that song or video though so I agree.

This one’s approximately 48,342,532,432,489 better, though!

  4. mmm…I’m not sure, I like the melody (very MIA) but so far her the production of this album is really sub-standard compared to her previous material.

‘Alright still’ and ‘It’s not me, it’s you’ were cutting edge pop records which blew all competition out of the water, especially The Fear. This (and Hard out here) however are generic and sloppy. I hope the rest of the album is better because right now I’m not sure I’m buying into this campaign…

  5. someone is trying to compete against LORDE
