Queen Latifah Says OutKast Are Working On New Album

OutKast

Fun fact: Before Queen Latifah became a daytime-TV star, her Flavor Unit company managed a number of big early-’90s rap and R&B groups including, for a time, OutKast. That doesn’t necessarily make her the greatest authority in all things OutKast, but you’d have to figure that she would know more than most about the group’s current activities. And with OutKast set to embark on a massive festival tour this summer — starting with Coachella and Governors Ball — it definitely seems plausible that they’d have new music in the works, as well. Yesterday, Latifah appeared on The Howard Stern Show, and, as a quick aside, mentioned that she used to manage OutKast. When Stern (who evidently does not read Stereogum) asked her what OutKast are up to now, she said, “They’re about to work on a new album.” She sounded like she did not want to talk much about this, which is, I think, the greatest evidence that it’s actually true. Listen below; it’s around the 1:01:15 mark.

Now, we just have to ask ourselves if a new OutKast album is actually something we want.
