Mogwai - Rave Tapes

Next week, Scottish post-rock titans Mogwai give us their monstrous new album Rave Tapes. It’s their eighth studio album, but it’s their first since they did the tingly score for the French horror TV show Les Revenants, and maybe that’s why it’s their most cinematic album. We’ve already posted the dark, Goblin-esque “Remurdered” and the soaring, beautiful Vocoder hymn “The Lord Is Out Of Control,” and those songs both destroy. But the whole album maintains that sweeping sense of majesty, and to my ears, it’s Mogwai’s best album in many years. Right now, you can stream the full album at Soundcloud, so for god’s sake, do that.

Rave Tapes is out 1/21 on Sub Pop.

  1. I’ve been waiting for this! Can’t wait to listen when I have time.

  2. Cinematic is the right word. As is excellent.

  3. Sounds a bit good on vinyl. Excellent album.

  4. I thought I was over Mogwai, but the sound of this is pretty nice. I could say I am pleasantly surprised.
