Vivian Girls Break Up

Vivian Girls

Over the course of seven years and three albums, the New York trio Vivian Girls developed a certain strain of Phil Spector-influenced DIY pop-punk, played about a billion shows, and came to personify a specific moment in Brooklyn indie rock. But ever since releasing 2011’s Share The Joy, principal members Cassie Ramone and Katy Goodman have been busier with other projects — the Babies and La Sera, respectively — than with the Vivs. And today, the Vivian Girls announced on their Facebook page that they will call it a day after playing two more shows. Here’s their statement:

Brooklyn, New York, March 2007: we started making music together and became what we know as Vivian Girls. It’s been a long and crazy journey in the seven years since, and we feel as though the time has finally come to let our band rest in peace. It’s been an experience that we’ll look back on and cherish and we’d like to thank you for sharing it with us. We have had such an amazing time being a band, touring the world, releasing records and meeting all of you.

Those final shows will go down 2/14 at L.A.’s Church On York and 3/1 at Brooklyn’s Death By Audio.
