The week between Christmas and New Year’s, when Drake dropped two new bangers of his own, he also popped up on an unfinished version of YG’s DJ Mustard production “Who Do You Love?” (You might recall that another YG/Mustard collab, “My Nigga,” got an all-star remix last week with Lil Wayne, Rich Homie Quan, Meek Mill, and Nicki Minaj. It’s good to be YG and DJ Mustard these days!) Now the official completed version of YG and Drake’s single is out in the world, and as we already ascertained from the leak, it goes. In terms of production, Mustard is making it look too easy; he could keep kicking out these spare, snapping, ominous beats ad infinitum and I question whether I’d get tired of it. Both MCs are in authoritative form, too, with YG charismatically making standard money-drugs-guns fare sound vibrant and new (his Bank Of America account has six figures!) and Drake asserting (a) his popularity across disparate regions, (b) his illustrious seafood diet, and (c) the exceptional size of his pinky ring.
