Last year, Ariel Pink teamed up with Jorge Elbrecht, of Violens and Lansing-Dreiden, to form the duo Jorge Elbrose and to release a couple of singles. One of their songs, “No Real Friend,” was Stereogum capo Scott Lapatine’s favorite song of 2013. Another, the fuzzy churn “Called To Ring,” was released as part of the Mexican Summer: Five Years compilation, and now it has a video. In the clip, which Elbrecht directed himself, Elbrecht and Pink and some bandmates whip hair in extreme slow-mo through dry-ice smoke and generally look as spooky as they possibly can. The end result looks so much like a mid-’90s metal video that I feel like I’m staying up to watch Headbanger’s Ball on a sleepover at a friend’s house. Watch it below.
The Mexican Summer: Five Years comp is out now on Mexican Summer.
