Wild Beasts - Present Tense

Wild Beasts forthcoming Present Tense is a truly fucking gorgeous, spacious, sexy, dark record. If you’re into stuff like Slowdive’s Pygmalion or Spirit Of Eden-era Talk Talk or David Sylvian, you will be into this, too. (Of course, if you’re into that stuff, you’re probably already eagerly awaiting Present Tense, and if you’re not into that stuff, I don’t know how to help you.) Anyway, the album’s great first single, “Wanderlust,” dropped early last month, and today, they’ve given us another: “Sweet Spot,” which more than lives up to the promise of its title. Listen, drift.

Present Tense is out 2/25 via Domino.

  1. This will be the AOTY.

    • I wouldn’t be surprised. Smother was my favorite album the year it was released, and honestly probably in my personal top 5 ever now. Cant wait for this to come out.

    • It is February 12th. They have previewed 2 singles.

      • But you can feel it, man. You can feel it. Their past three albums show a growth and confidence, and these two tracks seem to indicate that that growth is going to reach its peek. Wild Beasts are poised to break out this year. Finally.

And the same goes for Future Islands. For me, these two bands are running parallel courses. Let’s see!

        • You’re not alone. I can feel it too.

Nice Future Islands comparison too. They and Wild Beasts are both about to release their 4th album after both putting out smashing sophomore albums and subdued, under appreciated third albums.

Knowing we’re within a month of getting both has me at a fever pitch. “Singles” and “Present Tense” are two of my three most anticipated albums for the near future (“Oxymoron” being the other).

          Bring it on. We’re ready.

          • We should be friends, raptor jesus. Fever Pitch is a great term for my feelings, too. I just Future Islands at the Bowery Ballroom, and I’m going to see Wild Beasts soon, too. Fun times for music lovers!

  2. This song has beautiful lyrics. I am awfully eager for the whole thing.

  3. Just got about 9,000 times more excited for this album. I love when an album is forthcoming and I just KNOW I’m going to love it.

  4. So excited for this album.

  5. I can’t wrap my head around why these guys aren’t more popular everywhere. I guess they’re too sexy. Their records toe the line between masculinity, sexuality, and sensitivity in a way that only Queens of the Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys are, in my opinion of modern “rock” bands, comparable. I agree with the above posts and hope that the release of “Present Tense” and “Singles” by Future Islands will catapult both bands into the stratosphere of sex for other lovers across the world.

  6. God, that singing, those synthesizers, that syncopation, those swells; “Sweet Spot” must be a substitution for “Sensual Seduction: The Sequel.”

  7. wow. between this, st vincent and countless others down the pipeline, 2014 might even edge out 2013. and that’s saying a lot.
