Tycho is the moniker of musician (and one-off Stereogum graphic designer!) Scott Hansen. Hansen had been making music for years, but made a breakthrough in 2011 with the album Dive, a collection of deliriously smooth downtempo tracks. Tycho’s next album Awake (that’s the album art by Reuben Wu above) is due this year and now you can hear its newest single, “Spectre.” The track shows how Hansen’s sound has expanded recently, with more natural instrumentation (there’s even a guitar solo) and heavier drums. It sounds like the direction Tycho was meant to be heading in, especially now that he’s announced a tour with a live band. Listen and check out the tour dates below.

  1. Deep calm, featuring the tranquil music. #Iloveit

  2. makes me want to drive to nowhere! .. and disappear.

  3. Call me back when the track is no longer private

  4. Absolutely amazing, cant wait for the London gig.

  5. Chillwave never died. This is beautiful, and it was great seeing Tycho composing in less abstract terms, but with actual hooks.

  6. Actually, he’s been touring with a live band for quite time, at least since the release of Dive in 2011– and that is the direct that he’s heading, but it was a result of touring with the live band following Dive that influenced Scott to move more in the direct of live instrumentation.
