Robyn has been releasing music on her Konichiwa Records label for years, but for all that time, she’s been the only artist on the label. She’s just now finally signed someone else: The Stockholm pop singer Zhala. “Prophet,” Zhala’s first single on the label, is a duet with Robyn, and it’s a stark, percussive electro jam that exists somewhere on the Scandinavian synthpop spectrum between Robyn’s lush, humanist anthems and the Knife’s cold, assaultive grind. The two recently sang the track at the Grammis, the Swedish awards ceremony, in a strange and absorbing performance that riffed on Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” video. Below, listen to the studio version of the track and watch the performance.
Zhala’s Prophet EP is out now on Konichiwa.
