Vertical Scratchers

Vertical Scratchers is one of the new projects from Enon founder and former Brainiac guitarist John Schmersal (his other project is Crooks On Tape). Here, Schmersal plays alongside drummer Christian Beaulieu, and the band’s new album contains rock songs that are warped and textured, but without sacrificing any bite. In their new video, the track “Kingdom Come” becomes the soundtrack to a fractured, glitchy beach jam. Watch it below.

Daughter Of Everything is out now via Merge.

  1. been listening to this album quite a bit this week. it’s good, and definitely a grower. this song was a kind of a weird choice for a video, though; not a standout track for me, although it is one of the loudest. on the record it’s followed by their most immediate pop song, “someone,” which would have been a killer single. oh well.

i’m a john schmersal fan for life thanks to enon’s high society, a minor classic of early 00s indie rock. any enon fans here? they never got the love they deserved.
