Wild Beasts

The just-released fourth album by Wild Beasts, Present Tense, begins with the pummeling synth-war of “Wanderlust,” and the furious sentiment, “Don’t confuse me with someone who gives a fuck.” That fierceness carries on throughout Present Tense, but the album’s opener has been given a nice new balance by Alex Willner, aka the Field, a master of warm, dreamy, and trance-inducing techno. Though he explored some darker sounds on his most recent album, Cupid’s Head (one of our favorite albums of 2013), at its core Willner’s music is deeply hypnotic and beautiful. The 8-minute remix of “Wanderlust” completely reworks the song; if the track in its original form felt like a call to arms, this meditative remix makes for just the right comedown. Listen and download it below.

Present Tense is out now via Domino.

  1. This is great and I love it.

  2. Even thought I can’t find any resemblance to Wanderlust, the song itself is great.
