Real Estate @ Sirius XMU

Real Estate are getting ready to put out their third album, Atlas, but right before that happens they’ve issued a very fitting cover for us. The song is George Harrison’s “Behind That Locked Door” off his triple post-Beatles breakup album All Things Must Pass. It’s an excellent cover because it’s a song that suits Real Estate’s easy going majesty so well, and fits the slightly more existential tone of their new album. This all brings to mind another band they’ve taken a lot of influence from, Galaxie 500, who ended their best album On Fire with a cover of the most famous All Things track, “Isn’t It A Pity.” Listen to Real Estate’s cover, which they performed for Sirius XMU, and the original below.

Atlas is out 3/4 via Domino. Stream it now.

  1. I’ve known a number of songs from All Things Must Pass via radio play throughout the years, but it wasn’t until 4 years ago, or so, I listened to the entire album. What a gem…Honestly might be one of my favorite albums of all time. I love hearing artists do covers from it.

  2. Nice. I like the Yim Yames version too, which strays a bit further from the sound of the original.
And just to be that guy, “My Sweet Lord” has got to be the most famous All Things Must Pass song, no?

  3. The track appears to be down.

  4. this is so wonderful.
