These New Puritans

These New Puritans’ 2013 LP Field Of Reeds is frequently compared to Talk Talk, in part because of the album’s emotionally shattering and dense neoclassical explorations. Also, though, both bands inspire a similar assumption that their music would be impossible to recreate live. Talk Talk never bothered, and no one can be blamed for expecting the same of TNP. How do you perform songs live when the instrumentation includes gigantic swords clashing, melons being smashed, and an actual hawk? That’s part of what makes this live video, released in anticipation of a few US live dates, so incredible — they found a way. Below you can watch a live performance of Field Of Reeds’ epic centerpiece, “V (Island Song),” displayed on six split screens to capture the entirety of what the band is doing. It’s a performance that only generates more appreciation for the band. Watch it and check out the tour dates below.

Frankly, ‘Field of Reeds’ is a masterpiece and TNP hasn’t got nearly enough attention for it.
