Nine Inch Nails & Soundgarden Tour

As we all pretty much surmised last week, Alternative Nation royalty Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails will be hitting the road together this summer, setting up shop at pretty much every shed in the lower 48 over the course of a grueling five and a half weeks. Today, we get the official announcement — dates, venues, pre-sale info, public-sale info, etc. It’s all pretty much what you’d expect from a summer tour built around a pair of veteran acts touring as much behind the respective 20th anniversaries of their best-loved (and best) albums as their new records. With one exception: Instead of tapping, like, Silversun Pickups to open, they’re going with motherfucking Death Grips. That had to be Trent’s idea, no? I would love to have been in the room when he floated that one. How are Death Grips gonna go over at, for instance, Jones Beach, on a Friday night in August, playing to a slowly assembling crowd of Long Island Soundgarden fans who got to the show early to find their seats and loosen up with a few beers? I’m predicting it’s gonna be a mixed reaction. Anyway, all tour and ticket sale info below.

    • If Trent can get Godspeed You! to back him up on a tour across commercially-sponsored arenas, I think he probably managed to make a pretty convincing pitch to Death Grips as well.

Also, NIN’s history with awesome but not necessarily accessible to the masses opening acts during the 2000s is one of the best parts about their tours: HEALTH, Cold Cave, Explosion in the Sky, DFA1979, Deerhunter, A Place to Bury Strangers, Boris, The Horrors

      • Trent is hands down the best at picking opening bands. Just to add to _’s list, he brought TV On The Radio on the road before Cookie Mtn. dropped (QOTSA was on that bill too).

Of course, fan reactions to those bands was always mixed at best. Death Grips though… that’s awesome, especially since they’ll probably play before Soundgarden.

Actually how will they do that? I know for the Aussie tour with QOTSA they claimed to flip a coin on who would close the shows. Will Soundgarden/NIN rotate on this tour or will it be NIN closing down every night? Trent further asserting his dominance over Chris.

        • Yeah, I’m curious as to who closes the show at the end of the night. For me, this is a pure dream come true tour. I’m crossing my fingers that DG will deliver or else they will be under the verbal lashings of Trent (although I’m guessing they could care less who they piss off these days).

This is gonna be one massive tour. Obviously, Trent and Chris have found some peace amongst themselves. I don’t feel that this an aging rockers tour. I think that NIN and SG are celebrating their massive careers and the enduring fan base they both have. Congrats to both bands for still being relevant today and still churning out great music.

SG and NIN are both my absolute favorite bands and I’m definitely gonna catch this one.

        • The coin-flip was kind of a ruse. It turns out they’ve just been alternating who goes first each night, but there’s still been a tweet each day suggesting it will be up to chance.

    • You knew it all along mister.

Actually Matt Cameron is friends with and is a colleague of the drummer dude from Death Grips. They did the Drumgasm project together with Janet Weiss. Plus Trent’s probably a fan.

  3. Forget you Ticketmaster (aka Live Nation). you have screwed me for the last time!!!

  4. I got my tickets for Irvine and Hollywood.
