De La Soul - "Vocabulary Spills"

De La Soul, one of the greatest rap groups of all time, have been away for a while, but they’ve suddenly kicked back into high gear, and they’ve got three projects in the works. The first of those is Smell The D.A.I.S.Y., a new mixtape on which they rap over beats from the late production legend J Dilla. They’ve already shared one of its tracks, “Dilla Plugged In,” and now they’ve announced that the tape will be out next week and shared another one, “Vocabulary Skills.” Dilla got one of his first big looks working with De La’s buddies in a Tribe Called Quest, and his heady, bottom-heavy burble is a natural match for their conversational back-and-forth (though I wish they’d really take things back and spend an album rapping over nothing but Prince Paul beats). Listen to “Vocabulary Skills” below.

Smell The D.A.I.S.Y., as Batman is happy to inform you in the graphic above, is out 3/26, and it’ll be a free download on De La’s site.
