Chad VanGaalen

It might seem strange that Calgary singer/songwriter Chad VanGaalen took inspiration from both the Flying Burrito Brothers and the Alejandro Jodorowsky and Moebius comic The Incal, but “Monster,” his new single from the upcoming Shrink Dust, gives that a bit of perspective. VanGaalen lays out lines about his skin changing and his fingers falling off only to be replaced by talons, as bustling guitar and group vocals give the whole song a campfire glow. It’s a nice combination between the familiar and the alien. Listen below.

Shrink Dust is out 4/19 via Sub Pop.
