Schoolboy Q on Kimmel

Schoolboy Q already scored a Billboard #1 album with his new Oxymoron, but somehow the greatest indication I’ve seen of his rising star is the fact that Jimmy Kimmel Live booked him on its outdoor festival stage and that the hometown crowd gave him more of an ovation than you usually see on shows like this. On the show, Q performed “Studio,” the laid-back Oxymoron track, with a live band and singer BJ The Chicago Kid backing him up. As an online bonus, he also did the 2 Chainz collab “What They Want,” without 2 Chainz but with the feral stage presence that had mostly been missing from the first performance. Watch both performances below.

Oxymoron is out now on TDE/Interscope.

  1. What’s the point of having the singer there when you’ve got the backing track? Either sing, or use the backing track, B(ritney)J.
