Pete Townshend Writes A Song For The Americans

FX’s The Americans has become known for its great music choices, from the use of Fleetwood Mac’s “Tusk” in the pilot to last month’s montage set to Peter Gabriel’s “Here Comes The Flood.” That trend looks like it’s going to continue: Billboard reports that Pete Townshend wrote an original song that will appear in the show’s season finale. The Who guitarist worked with The Americans composer Nathan Barr to come up with “It Must Be Done,” which will soundtrack a scene that was described as “sex and murder.” In an interview, Townshend said that he wanted to keep the song very simple. “Here’s this couple whose whole life is about duty, duty without honor, duty without explanation. There are no accolades. They’re not living a lie but doing things they find hard to do. Everybody has a part of their life that’s difficult to explain. For me it’s why the fuck am I in the Who?” The Americans season finale will air on 4/30.
