Neil Young’s Pono Kickstarter Ended Up Raising $6.2M

Neil Young's Pono Kickstarter

Neil Young’s PonoMusic dreams became a reality on the first day of its Kickstarter campaign when it hit its $800,000 fundraising goal. Since then, it’s been a waiting game to see how much money the project would accumulate. It’s just finished and managed to raise $6,225,354 million dollars from 18,220 backers, which makes it the third most successful Kickstarter ever, right behind smartwatch Pebble and video game console Ouya. The portable music player is set to be delivered to backers in October and will presumably be available to the general public shortly after that. It’s unclear if Young’s vision of a world that cares about high-quality recording will take off or if the PonoPlayer will be shelved as a technological also-ran next to the Zune but it’s certainly generated enough interest for now.
