We’ve already heard one track from Fucked Up’s forthcoming Glass Boys, and the Canadian epic-hardcore band just dropped another. “Led By Hand” kind of combines the soaring, atmospheric emo of Sunny Day Real Estate or Jawbox with a blues-y, slide-guitar chorus that reminds me of the Charlatans circa Telling Stories or something. Rhythmically and texturally, the track has a contemplative, languorous feel, belied by Damian Abraham’s fierce, frantic vocal delivery. J Mascis contributes backing vocals. Check it out.

Glass Boys is out 6/3 via Matador. Pre-order it here.

  1. Plus, it features J Mascis!

It sounds pretty hip-hop to me in its beat, actually. Melody is the big takeaway from their early previews, which was both expected and appreciated.

  2. “J Mascis contributes backing vocals.”

… and guitar? The “bluesy, slide-guitar” playing would definitely be courtesy of Mr. Mascis.

  3. Not sure what to make of this. I’d like to hear it in good quality and in the context of the album before I make any rash judgments.

  4. Has anyone noticed there are two versions of this song floating around?

    • I noticed this on YouTube, but just thought they released the audio clip with different color template backgrounds. I haven’t given a closer listen to tell what the differences between the two are, though.

      • Update: one is the album version (the white background) and the other is the single version (the black background.)

        • I did some more research, it turns out there’s two versions of the album with different drum speeds.

“The limited Double LP features an alternate front and back cover and a second LP of “Glass Boys (Slow Version),” a unique mix of the album with the drums at half time.”

          Pretty sneaky!
