Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn, the two members of Sylvan Esso, both keep things rootsy with their other bands — Meath with Vermont folk harmonizers Mountain Man, Sanborn with North Carolina Southern-psych veterans Megafaun. As Sylvan Esso, though, they’ve gone all Purity Ring, making dance-flavored synthpop of the type that seems destined to move festival crowds. And as it turns out, they’re really good at it. Sylvan Esso’s self-titled debut album shines with casual melody and streamlined beat construction, and it will make your Monday a whole lot more pleasurable. We’ve posted the early tracks “Hey Mami,” “Play It Right,” and “Coffee,” and now you can (and should) stream the whole thing at NPR.
Sylvan Esso is out 5/13 on Partisan.
