The Horrors on Jools Holland

The Horrors’ swooping, dance-informed new album Luminous came out yesterday, and it’s our Album Of The Week during a week when a lot of big albums came out. On the most recent episode of the BBC show Later… With Jools Holland, the band rolled through to play the sweeping single “So Now You Know.” They looked as immaculate as ever, but frontman Faris Badwan’s voice was as raggedy and haggard as I’ve ever heard it, which actually might be a better sound for him. On that same episode, the reunited Afghan Whigs also did a feverish, tense rendition of “Matamoros,” a song from their strong comeback album Do To The Beast. (Little Dragon was also on the episode, but videos of their performance have been taken down from YouTube.) Watch the Horrors and the Whigs below.

Luminous is out now on XL, and Do To The Beast is out now on Sub Pop.

  1. Man, I love the Horrors.

    Man.

  2. Yeah I don’t know what’s up with his voice. He sounded fine 4 days ago. Either he’s trying to reel it back or just had something in his throat. Hmmm.

Either way, I share dad-dad-don-ta-tas feelings as well.
