Bumbershoot poster

The Bumbershoot Festival goes down in venues around Seattle every year on Labor Day weekend, and the lineup for this year’s festivities on 8/30-9/1 just came out. As usual, it’s a unique assembly of talent, not just a retread of your basic festival mainstay. A sampling of notable acts: Wu-Tang Clan (featuring… who knows?), the Replacements, Elvis Costello And The Imposters, the Afghan Whigs, Real Estate, Bootsy Collions, Danny Brown, the Dismemberment Plan, Bobby Womack, Mac DeMarco, Twin Shadow, the Head And The Heart, Schoolboy Q, Mission Of Burma, Big Freedia, Luscious Jackson, Poliça, Kishi Bashi, Iamsu!, Julianna Barwick, Jonathan Richman, and an all-star performance of Big Star’s Third led by Jody Stephens. Go here for ticket info, and see the full lineup in video and text form below.

  1. Well thats, umm, different.

  2. “Unique assembly of talent” = keeping the talent budget low.

There’s nobody here who could headline a different festival (at least anymore), and most of the “name” acts are well past their expiration dates or touring as nostalgia.

P.S.: Luscious Jackson are still together??
