Kathleen Hanna

One of the central points of the Kathleen Hanna documentary The Punk Singer (besides Hanna’s seminal contributions to music history with Bikini Kill and Le Tigre) was the battle with Lyme Disease that delayed the progress of her new band the Julie Ruin for years. Hanna’s illness is flaring up again, so the Julie Ruin’s itinerary has been derailed again. A long string of spring and summer tour dates have been pushed back to September so Hanna can undergo what the band describes as a difficult three-month treatment regimen. The band issued a statement Tumblr:

Hey All, we are ridiculously sad to announce that all shows/appearances are cancelled until September 2014. Kathleen has been outspoken about her struggle with Lyme Disease and she is currently having a health crisis and has been advised by her doctor to start a difficult 3-month course of treatment immediately. The treatment plan will make it impossible for her to travel. We are disappointed to postpone these appearances, however we are confident that taking this time off will allow Kathleen to heal so that we can continue touring in the future. Thank you so much for your support and we are so sorry we can’t come out and see you right now.

  1. Man, that sucks. I missed them in Chicago a couple weeks ago and was really looking forward to their Pitchfork set.
