Steve Reich & Philip Glass Bury The Hatchet For Nonesuch’s 50th

Steve Reich & Philip Glass Bury The Hatchet For Nonesuch’s 50th

Tastefully curated Warner Bros. subsidiary Nonesuch turns 50 this year and is still going strong (next week they may very well have the #1 album in the country with the Black Keys’ Turn Blue). And this September the label will celebrate its anniversary with a three-week series of concerts at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music. Nonesuch Records At BAM: Celebrating A Label Without Labels kicks off 9/9 with the Philip Glass Ensemble & Steve Reich And Musicians. This is especially notable because the two celebrated minimalist composers long ago had a falling out they discussed never publicly. This is the first time Glass and Reich will share a program in over 30 years. Other performers at the festival include Robert Plant, Laurie Anderson, Devendra Banhart, and Kronos Quartet. Here’s the full schedule:

Sep 9–11: The Philip Glass Ensemble & Steve Reich and Musicians [Nico Muhly and Timo Andres, Synergy Vocals, and others]
Sep 9: Brad Mehldau
Sep 10: Brad Mehldau & Chris Thile
Sep 11: Dawn Upshaw and Gilbert Kalish
Sep 12 & 13: Alarm Will Sound

The Black Keys will be in town, too, but they’ll play down the street at Barclays Center on 9/24. More details on the individual concert lineups can be found at nonesuch.com.
