Lil Wayne – “D’Usse”

Lil Wayne

A couple of weeks ago, Lil Wayne let the world hear his Drake collaboration “Believe Me,” which might be the first track from his long-in-the-works album Tha Carter V. And now he’s followed it up with “D’Usse,” a frantic-but-regal brag-rap bugout that at least exists in the same universe as his classic material. The beat, from producer Lee Majors, is the sort of old-school soul-sampling banger that Wayne would’ve laced around 2005. Wayne’s free-associative I-am-the-best approach doesn’t exactly yield a ton of quotables (“How many fish did Hootie blow? I don’t know”), but it’s still a lot of fun. Listen below.

Wayne says that Tha Carter V will be the last solo album he’ll release before retirement. It doesn’t have a release date yet.
