Happyness – “Leave The Party” (Stereogum Premiere)

By Chris DeVille / May 19, 2014 - 10:00 am

The promising South London trio Happyness proved at least two things with recent single “Great Minds Think Alike, All Brains Taste The Same“: (1) They’re exceptionally adept at easygoing, melodic, post-Pavement indie rock and (2) they’ve got a wickedly morbid sense of humor. Both of those traits are reiterated on “Leave The Party,” the band’s next single from full-length debut Weird Little Birthday. The song is about going to a party and shooting everyone, but by the time the ultra-smooth and satisfying outro arrives you might mistake it for some lovelorn ballad by Yo La Tengo or the Clientele. Listening below is highly recommended.

Weird Little Birthday is out 6/16 on Weird Smiling. The band kicks off a run of UK headline dates that same day:

6/16 London @ Rough Trade West
6/17 London, UK @ Servant Jazz Quarter
6/18 Sunderland, UK @ Sunderland Pop Store
6/19 Glasgow, UK @ Teenage Riot, Bloc
6/20 Manchester, UK @ The Castle Hotel
6/21 Leeds, UK @ Brudenell
