Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers - Hypnotic Eye

Tom Petty and his Heartbreakers have a decades-long legacy of amazing songs, and they’ve already claimed that their forthcoming album Hypnotic Eye will return them to the precise, timeless classic-rock sound that first made them famous. Talking to Rolling Stone, Petty calls the album “a straight hard-rockin’ record, from beginning to end,” and first single “American Dream Plan B” bears that out. It’s a clipped, percussive groove about how we’re all going to be broke forever, and it shows you how much influence Petty’s had on a band like Spoon. Petty is simply incapable of writing a bad song, so you would be well-advised to stream the track below.

Hypnotic Eye is out 7/29 on Reprise.

  1. Cool song. Sounds like Spoon has been influencing Tom as much as vice versa.

  2. Fuck yeah, ten seconds in and I already love this… but then Tom Petty/The Heartbreakers are basically an institution in my life and can pretty much do no wrong.
