Despite its modern sheen, much of Josh Tillman’s exultant lounge-ready folk-rock as Father John Misty sounds like it could have been conceived and recorded in 1971. So of course when he covers Cat Stevens’ “Trouble,” he completely owns it. The original song was used in Hal Ashby’s 1971 film Harold & Maude, which is why Tillman tackled it for the soundtrack to the new documentary Once I Was: The Hal Ashby Story.
