Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before

It wasn’t especially surprising when Morrissey canceled all of his remaining North American tour dates last week; it’s the sort of thing Morrissey does. But it was a bit surprising when he blamed opening act Kristeen Young for the entire debacle, claiming that she kept performing with a cold, refused to sit any dates out, and got Morrissey and his crew sick. Young denied the charges, saying that she was only having an allergic reaction and that “this is really too much and too bizarre.” Tony Visconti, a veteran producer who has worked with both Morrissey and Young, sided with Young on Facebook, though this development went unnoticed by even those of us who were following the story. But Jesse Tobias, the guitarist in Morrissey’s band, noticed, and he’s now written a statement calling out both Young and Visconti. Check it out below.

It’s been quite Disheartening to see the “Facebook” Hatred thrown about by Our Former Friends/ Working Partners Kristeen Young and Tony Visconti.

I do feel that Someone needs to Speak Up for Moz in this situation as it is unbearable to watch people you once trusted , Attack and Pick Away at your Friend.

In my experience ANYONE associated with the Morrissey Camp know they are solely there because of Morrissey himself.

He chooses to tour/ work with certain people.

For Kristeen and Tony Visconti to go on about Her being better off now, without considering Morrissey’s 9 years of help and promotion is Very Disappointing.

Only speaking from my experience, with the crew and Moz falling ill in Miami, for Kristeen to deny she was truly sick seems disingenuous.

I was told after the show in Miami by Crew and Security that there was some concern because Kristeen was obviously unwell.

Our crew then tried to keep her at a reasonable distance but being in such close quarters for months these things sometimes happen.

I am Upset that in this situation Kristeen could not take the tour as a whole into consideration and just comply with the postponement announcement.

One could only assume it was necessary for her to justify herself and ultimately receive some promotion out of the matter.

This combined with Tony Visconti’s Parrot Like affirmation on “Facebook” that “she is better off, is Morrissey Capable of being handled?” is Repulsive.

This is a MAN who worked closely with us on a record and several sessions that Suddenly flips into Schoolgirl mode with “yeah you tell em” Chatter…??

Good Riddance to False Friends.

Well, I can see why Morrissey and Tobias get along so well.

  1. This whole deal is hilarious and extremely odd. Plus, you’re usually most contageous with a cold before it gets that bad, so I don’t know if it would have been that much of a precaution to stay out of “close quarters” with her to prevent spread.

  2. ah, dear lord. I don’t understand the whole accusation in the first place. So she got sick (unless it really was allergies) so what? Sickness gets around, I honestly believe there’s not much you can do about it, by the time you notice you’re sick its probably too late to prevent any real spreading of the disease.

  3. In all seriousness, I can only offer my observations as an outsider, but it seems to me that Morrissey’s cancellation track record puts him in a negative light. People have grown tired of his erratic behavior and constantly cancelled/rescheduled dates. Perhaps he thought he could win some sympathy by throwing the blame on someone else for a change. “This time it’s not my fault, I swear!”

I understand that Morrissey has helped Kristeen’s career tremendously over the years, but that’s no reason to throw her under the bus.

That’s the best I can do in terms of sorting out my opinions, and I figure it’s better to leave a thoughtful comment rather than the usual “HE SHOULD EAT A CHEESEBURGER” bullshit.

  4. well at least morrissey is consistent in his assholery and also works with assholes

  5. I am siding with Kristeen based on grammar and my Hatred of Random Capitalization.

  6. I’m surprised “Good Riddance to False Friends” isn’t already a Morrissey song

  7. Ah, yes. “Facebook”. Let’s put that in quotation marks. Does anyone even really know what “Facebook” is? Has anyone ever actually seen a “Facebook”?

  8. The random capitalizations are bizarre. How did he decide which words to capitalize?

  9. Does morrissey still make music??

  10. I saw Kristeen Young play a show once, I thought it was vaguely interesting live, she was on the same bill as one of my friends’ bands at The Water Rats (vaguely horrible but reliably busy music venues in King’s Cross). Anyway I got her EP and it was pretty unlistenable, it’s just a bit too artlessly weird for me. Anyone else actually listened to / seen her play?

This reminds me of the modern day office expectations of let people know as soon as you may have a germ, but keep coming in to work to work hard, but don’t get anyone sick, but then when you get someone sick endure all the disappointed faces at your selfishness in spreading a bug around the office. Just don’t ever look sick or cough or display any sign of weakness in an office, k?

  12. That boy Tobias was in the Red Hot Chili Peppers for 9 days
